TerrebonneGeneral Medical Center (TGMC) celebrated the first baby born in 2015 inTerrebonne parish by honoring the baby and parents with a gift basket of babyitems and essentials.
A boy, SethJoseph Trahan, Jr., was born at 5:01 am on January 1, 2015 weighing 6 pounds,0.3 ounces and 19 inches long. The proud parents are Seth Trahan and KathleenLandry of Houma and big sister, Chloe Verdin, age three.
This pastyear, TGMC’s Women’s Health Center was awarded the prestigious honor ofbecoming an internationally Baby-FriendlyDesignated birth facility from Baby-Friendly USA. TheBaby-Friendly Designation is all about empowering mothers to make informeddecisions about her baby’s care. Mothers are also encouraged to room in withtheir newborns. This means that all routine care is done at the mother’sbedside and babies are not taken away unnecessarily for staff convenience.Mother’s have reported that this has helped them have a much more relaxedhospital stay since care is centered on their needs and routines instead of thestaff’s. Families also feel more confident about their baby’s care afterleaving the hospital.
