Diabetes Management

Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) offers a comprehensive diabetes self-management program to serve the needs of the diabetes population in our region. Our team of educators understands that diabetes self-management is a life-long journey. Our educators will work closely with you to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to anchor you on course towards your destination of success in diabetes control.

Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to many life-altering complications including:

  • Blindness
  • Kidney failure
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Amputation

Good diabetes control plays an important role in preventing or delaying these complications. The program’s overall objective for diabetes self-management education is to empower you in decision-making, self-care behaviors, problem solving and collaboration with the health care team in order to improve clinical outcomes, health status, and quality of life.

Cruise to Control, Be Anchored in Knowledge, Navigate to Better Health

Based on the needs of the patient and family, and the recommendations of the referring physician, we will provide you with a complete educational/training experience. To begin we will teach you how to pack for your diabetes C.R.U.I.S.E. • be anchored in the calm waters of diabetes control
  • know how to captain your own diabetes ship by effectively navigating through the stormy and changing waters of diabetes
  • understand the when, where, how and why of fueling up for your lifelong journey
