New center will offer private, secure, woman-focused care

As a wife, mother and daughter, you are the health-care gatekeeper for your family. But, in taking care of your family, don’t forget to pay attention to one other very special person — you!

At Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC), we know that women have special health-care needs. We are leading the way to better services for you with the construction of a dedicated Women’s Services and Resource Center. Work on the new women’s center began in April 2004 and is expected to be completed by summer 2005.

“We want to make a commitment to the women of Terrebonne Parish by providing a comprehensive scope of services under one roof,” says Laura Picou, director of Women’s Services at TGMC. “The center will have the latest and greatest technology. We also want a warm and welcoming environment, as well as a place that will provide the extra privacy and security women want.”

Currently, women’s services are divided between two floors at TGMC. Under one roof, the new facility will nearly triple the space devoted to women’s services and double the number of birthing rooms available. It will also include a post-partal room, labor and delivery rooms, operating rooms, neonatal intensive care beds, a gynecology surgical suite and a range of testing services, including bone densitometry and mammograms.

“This is transforming not only the physical appearance of the hospital but also the way women in South Louisiana will receive health care,” Picou says. “This will truly be a premier center for women’s health care, prevention, education and wellness."
