Labor and Delivery and Post-Partal Visitation
- During your stay in Labor and Delivery, two adults may be in your labor room with you for support, encouragement and coaching.
- “Big Sisters and Brothers” (accompanied by a responsible adult) may visit during your labor, and are the only minor children under 12 years old allowed. We discourage children remaining for the entire labor and delivery process; however, following a normal delivery, your children may return to visit. We follow the hospital guidelines for no children under the age of 12 on the nursing units, except for siblings. Children (including siblings) may not spend the night.
- Three visitors, chosen by the patient, will be allowed to stay during a vaginal delivery.
- Two visitors, chosen by the patient, will be allowed to stay during a cesarean delivery under epidural or spinal anesthesia. No visitors are allowed to attend a general cesarean delivery.
- No visitors are allowed to come and go during a delivery. Deliveries are closed to visitor traffic.
- Please be aware that it is always up to the medical staff’s judgment to ask visitors to leave at any time during a delivery, for the health and welfare of the patient and infant.
- Following a vaginal delivery, we recommend no more than four visitors at a time to visit with you and your infant, and we stress good hand washing. Again, only the infant’s sisters and brothers are allowed to visit during the post-partal period.
- Following a cesarean section under epidural or spinal anesthesia, you may have your newborn and one visitor with you during the first hour of your recovery period.
- Following a cesarean section under general anesthesia, your infant will go to the nursery for your family to view through the nursery windows. You will recover for at least one hour, before visitors will be allowed in the room.
- Please be aware that your health is our main priority during your recovery period, and guests may be asked to leave at any time.
- Once the recovery period has ended, general visitation will resume and one adult may stay overnight. All other guests and children will be asked to leave when visitation hours end.
