Diabetes self-management is a lifelong journey. The Diabetes Management Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center’s (TGMC) self management program will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to anchor you on course towards your destination of success in diabetes control.
Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to many life altering complications including:
- blindness
- kidney failure
- heart disease
- stroke
- sexual dysfunction
- amputations
Good diabetes control plays an important role in preventing or delaying these complications.
The program’s overall objective for diabetes self-management education is to empower you
in decision making, self-care behaviors, problem solving, and collaboration with the health care team in order to improve clinical outcomes, health status, and quality of life.

The Diabetes Management Center at TGMC provides a complete education/training experience based on the needs of the patient and family, and the recommendations of the referring physician.

Nationally Recognized Program
The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at TGMC has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education*. This program has been recognized since 1997 and was the first facility of its kind in the Tri-Parish area to be recognized.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
In addition to diabetes self-management training, our dietitian offers a wide range of services meeting the dietary needs of the community in the outpatient setting. Nutritional services include:
- Weight management for adults and pediatrics
- High blood pressure
- Abnormal blood lipids
- Poor eating habits
- Pregnancy nutrition counseling
- Renal disease
- Gastrointestinal conditions

- A doctor’s order is necessary.
- Call the Diabetes Management Center at 985-850-6200 and we will be happy to take the
necessary information to obtain orders from your physician.

- The Diabetes Management Center is located in the Medical Atrium Building, which is located just before you arrive at TGMC. Parking is available in the parking garage located behind the Medical Atrium building. For specific directions, please call the Diabetes Management Center staff at 850-6200.
