Vandebilt Catholic High School Key Club Makes Donation to MBPCC at TGMC

05/25/2012

Members of the Vandebilt Catholic High School Key Club presented officials at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC (MBPCC at TGMC) a check for $547.26 to help fight cancer in our community.  The Vandebilt Key Club met regularly during the school year.  At each of their meetings, a change jar was passed around for those members to donate spare change.  According to Gabrielle Espirilu, Key Club President and Terrebonne Parish Teenager of the Year, the students made this special donation in honor or two of their instructors who are receiving treatment at MBPCC at TGMC.  Espirilu went a step further and donated one of the many scholarships for $250.00 that she was awarded towards this fund.

“We appreciate the generosity these students have displayed by making this donation to our cancer program.  This act of kindness honoring their teachers will go a long way to benefit other members of our community,” said Clarke Currie, Oncology Services Director at MBPCC at TGMC.

Funds donated to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC are used to provide multiple FREE cancer screenings, a vast array of community education, and support opportunities offered throughout the year.  Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC demonstrates a strong commitment to community outreach, and conducted screenings for over 750 people in 2011 for breast, prostate, colorectal and skin cancer- all at no cost to the patient.  In addition, over 1,000 people were reached at educational events where cancer information was shared. These wellness and prevention efforts literally help to save hundreds of lives annually.
