Danyel VanMatre, RN, BSN, CVRN, Telemetry Nurse Director at Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) was recognized for excellence in nursing at Nicholls State University recently. The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Xi Zeta Chapter at Nicholls State University Department of Nursing honored VanMatre with a Nursing Leader Excellence Award.
VanMatre has 17 years of nursing experience, completing her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Nicholls State University. She has worked at TGMC for the past 17 years. VanMatre has held several positions at TGMC including Telemetry Staff Nurse, Telemetry Patient Educator, House Supervisor and currently is the Nurse Director of 4 South Telemetry Unit.
This award honors nurse leaders, educators and clinicians throughout the region and state. Only one award was given for each of three categories: Nurse Clinician, Nurse Leader, and Nurse Educator. The recipients are nominated by a peer with qualities and qualifications then reviewed and scored by the Excellence Award Committee according to criteria for the appropriate category.

The awards was presented on Thursday, April 19th during the Sigma Theta Tau "Excellence Awards 2012" Banquet and Spring Program at Nicholls State University.
