The foundation of a great organization begins with a dedicated team who always carries a sense of pride. Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC)’s team constantly shines by going above and beyond in providing the best healthcare for their patients and being a strong community partner. 2015 was an incredible year for the patients, staff, and physicians at TGMC. From new and exciting renovations and improvements to several state and national awards, TGMC’s hard work and commitment to the community continues to make a significant impact.
TGMC received several major recognitions this year that encompass all that it has to offer to both patients and the entire community. When it comes to inspiring and promoting wellness, TGMC’s Healthy Lifestyles Center takes center stage in providing a proactive approach to living healthier lives. Being named as a Level One Hospital WellSpot set the pace for the community to embrace good health and wellness and get very involved in hospital sponsored events.
Next, through the tremendous efforts of TGMC employees and physicians, TGMC’s accredited Chest Pain Center was recognized on a national level with the Amerinet Healthcare Achievement Award and statewide the American Heart Association honored TGMC with the Gold Quality Achievement Award for excellence in both stroke and resuscitation care. Cardiac services at TGMC are well noted regionally, nationally, and internationally as they continue to be innovative in services offered.
It also takes a team effort to create an excellent cancer program. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC was named to the Becker’s Hospital Review Top 100 Hospitals for Great Oncology programs, received the National Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program and the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), all indicative of the great passion that drives the care for TGMC patients.
The continued investment in the best technology has not gone unnoticed either. Stage 6 Health Information and Management Systems Society for safety in patient health records has noted TGMC for such advancement.
For the second time, TGMC was granted the Pathway to Excellence® nurses accreditation for continuing to nourish the best career environment for nurses. Patients consistently recognize the great care and communication they receive.
TGMC also excels when it comes to patients’ safety, satisfaction, and quality of care, and in return has been awarded the grade of “A” by Leapfrog Hospital Safety Scores, the Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by Joint Commission, and the Louisiana Safety Star Award. TGMC is thankful to the entire hospital staff and physicians for the dedication, knowledge, and teamwork it takes to make TGMC so special.
Being a strong community partner is very important to TGMC. Besides the amazing things inside the hospital performed each day, the hard work extends far out into the community through the many events, schools, and organizations they support. Events are held throughout the year to benefit The Foundation for TGMC and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC Foundation. From Ladies Night Out to the Rooftop Roundup, the generous community, donors, and employees continue to provide funds that are given directly back to those who need medical care, services, and the best in research and technology. The reinforcement of these events brings awareness and community involvement making our hospital a strong leader and partner among our residents.
TGMC’s employee volunteer program, Team Terrebonne, made the biggest impact toward volunteerism to date by donating their time in over 50 community events this past year with more than 3,100 hours of community service. Tireless devotion to giving back to the community is one of the greatest assets of the TGMC team. Team Terrebonne continues to exceed the expectation as a constant helping hand towards all.
Throughout TGMC much advancement is being made inside the building with the completion of the MRI Caring suites in Radiology, the newly renovated restaurant, the addition of the Sports Performance Training Center, and most recently the construction of the Hybrid Operating Room. All of these areas have the patient and community in mind making healthcare and wellness more accessible in the great services TGMC is providing each day.
It is truly an exciting time for TGMC as they plan for more great things to come from the excellent work of their team. The physicians and staff’s dedication to providing patients and the community with the best healthcare is what makes TGMC the best in the region for patients to receive care, for physicians to practice, and employees to work, all being very close to home.
"We anticipate a very bright future because of the talented staff and physicians who provide passionate care for our patients both inside our hospital and out in our community.
TGMC is truly blessed to have the most dedicated physicians and staff who call TGMC home and work every day to ensure only the best of care for all of our patients and our community,” said Phyllis Peoples, president and CEO. “We welcome the new year as we expand our cardiology program by adding a new Hybrid Operating Room, open a newly renovated restaurant for employees and guests and continue to support our community in making healthy lifestyle choices that lead to happier, more productive lives. I am proud to say that miracles happen every day at TGMC,” she continued.
