Michelle Rousseau, a Thibodaux native and Director of Human Resources at Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) was named a recipient of the Gary Willis Leadership Award co-sponsored by The American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) and the American Hospital Association (AHA).

The Gary Willis Leadership Award (GWL) recognizes mid-level managers and directors who have made outstanding leadership and operations contributions to their organization. The award is for managers who are looking to advance their career through continuous educational opportunities promoting operational excellence.

This prestigious award honors the memory of Gary Willis, an ASHHRA board member, who passed away in 2010 after a battle with stomach cancer. Recipients chosen for the GWL must have a minimum of five years of health care HR experience, ASHHRA member for at least one year and hold a position from mid-level manager to director. The ASHHRA and AHA is dedicated to meeting the professional needs of human resources leaders in healthcare.

“My mother and great-grandmother worked in healthcare, so they saw people every day who were making a difference in others’ lives. I wanted to do the same, but in my own way,” explained Rousseau. “I entered the human resources profession to make a difference in the lives of employees,” she continued.

“Michelle is a great example of how our employees are living out our mission of providing exceptional healthcare with compassion every day. We are proud that she is being recognized for her hard work and congratulate her on such an accomplishment,” said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO of TGMC.
