LSU Fans are Called to Save Lives “One Pint at a Time”

LSU fans are called to save lives “One pint at a time” at the 7th Annual Ron Brooks Louisiana State University (LSU) versus The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Blood Drive Challenge which is being held at Terrebonne General Medical Center’s (TGMC) Blood Donor Center now through October 18.

Ron Brooks, an avid Ole Miss fan, is challenging LSU fans to donate blood and bring a friend to the TGMC Blood Donor Center. If at least 1,000 LSU fans donate blood from August 12th until the LSU versus Ole Miss football game on October 19th, Ron Brooks will donate $1,000 to the Tiger Athletic Fund (TAF) and $1,000 to The Foundation for TGMC. Each donor will receive a free t-shirt and their name will be entered into a drawing for a football signed by the legendary Manning family. This year, any donor giving blood for the first time will be entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire notebook.

“I have partnered with the TGMC Blood Donor Center for several years now and we have continued to meet our goal of pints donated each year, so this year we upped the ante to a goal of 1,000 pints,” said Ron Brooks, Ole Miss fan and leader of the challenge. “We really want to encourage LSU fans to come out and show your support not only for the Tigers but for saving lives in the community through blood donation,” Brooks continues.

In addition to TAF receiving a monetary donation if the goal is reached The Foundation for TGMC will benefit.  The Foundation for TGMC was established last year with the goal of providing financial support in the promoting, developing, and expanding the services, functions, purpose, and mission of TGMC in providing exceptional healthcare with compassion.  “I look forward to assisting The Foundation for TGMC in its goal to support TGMC,” added Brooks.

Blood donations are a crucial part of the saving lives within our community. Someone needs blood every two seconds. It takes about 40 minutes to donate one pint that can save up to three lives. All blood donations given at the TGMC Blood Donor Center are used at TGMC for our patients and our community.

If you are interested in saving lives and having both LSU and The Foundation for TGMC benefit by participating in the Ron Brooks Blood Drive Challenge, please call the TGMC Blood Donor Center at 985-873-4025 or stop by the Blood Donor Center located in TGMC’s Medical Annex Building behind the hospital on Belanger Street (across from the parking garage).
