Joan Birdsall has been named the Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) April Employee of the Month. Birdsall is a supervisor in the Patient Financial Services department.

In an effort to recognize outstanding employees, the TGMC Customer Service Council has implemented the Employee of the Month program.  This program recognizes employees that exemplify the kind of person that patients, family members and fellow employees distinguish as role models. This employee shows dedication, outstanding work ethics and a positive attitude that is reflected in their day-to-day work and focuses on meeting both internal and external customer service goals.  This person also makes it a priority to live out the TGMC mission of providing exceptional healthcare with compassion.

Joan is always available when needed and is the first one to volunteer to help. She works with the other staff members to share her knowledge and assist in areas that are not her responsibility, so that everything is done correctly. Joan is one of the most knowledgeable people in the billing industry. She goes above and beyond to make sure certain rules and regulations are followed and assists in educating staff members.

“I like to tell the story of when I was interviewed in 1982. Human Resources was hesitant about hiring me, thinking I would find the 40 minute commute tiresome and seek employment elsewhere.  As no one can guarantee their length of employment, I asked for consideration. Thirty years later I’m still here.  I’ve worked with many great people and made great friends.  I can’t imagine my life without TGMC,” said Birdsall.
