Grand Isle Ladies Fishing Rodeo

09/24/2012

The Grand Isle Ladies Fishing Rodeo will be help October 5 & 6, 2012, at Bridgeside Marina at the foot of the Grand Isle Bridge overlooking the Cheniere Caminada Pass. Bridgeside is a fill services marina and all activities will take place there. Entry fee is $20 per person and includes a rodeo cap, fishing the event, door prizes, dinner and dance on Saturday Night. Team fishing is encouraged with the Fishing Fashion Award. A children’s division will be open for girls 6-15 years old. Tickets are available at Bridgeside Marina, the Grand Isle Port Commission, located at 2757 Hwy 1, or online at http://www.gicdt.org/.

Last year’s rodeo produced winners in every category, happy anglers and supported breast cancer awareness through the American Cancer Society with a donation of $8,000. This year’s rodeo, with the support of our fishing friends, will give a donation to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC, the Thibodaux Regional Medical Cancer Center and Our Lady of the Sea Hospital. These funds are for direct patient services locally to support cancer patients with pharmacy cards, fuel cards and wigs through our local hospitals. The rodeo is also dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer.

The Grand Isle Ladies Fishing Rodeo Committee encourages TEAM Fishing, by getting a group of friends together to “fish the ditches” or charter a boat to “fish the back bay.” Design a team outfit and enter to win the “Fishing Fashion Award” as a team. Register your team name and members to be eligible for the award at the Rodeo ticket booth during the rodeo or at the GI Tourist Center prior to the rodeo. Contestants must be present, wearing the team outfit and participate in the fishing fashion show Saturday evening beginning at 6 pm.

This year a children’s division will be open to girls from 6 to 15 years old. A separate Board will post the winners and all prevailing rules will apply to the children’s division.

Come on down to the island for good fishing, good friends and good fun!
