With three decades of use and follow-up, the Leksell Gamma Knife is established and unparalleled as the Gold Standard in radiosurgery. Since the inception of Gamma Knife Surgery in 1968, approximately 100,000 patients have been treated at over 100 sites worldwide at a current cumulative rate of more than 20,000 patients per year. The Leksell Gamma Knife is routinely used as the treatment of choice in the management of selected small- to medium-sized intracranial lesions. It has also been shown to be an adjuvant therapy for treating residual lesions left unresected after conventional surgery, as a boost in conjunction with radiation therapy, and in the treatment of recurrent tumors.

    

Indications Treated
Intracranial tumors such as: Acoustic neuromas, pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, pinealomas, glial and metastic lesions and other benign and malignant tumors.

Arteriovenous malformations: Multiple published studies report that Gamma Knife Surgery's clinical results and the non-invasive procedure make it the treatment of choice for small to medium AVM's, and advantageous for patients medically unable or unwilling to undergo conventional surgery3.

Trigeminal Nerve: Leksell Gamma Knife users have noted a dramatic increase in the treatment of the

trigenimal nerve using Gamma Knife Surgery. MRI compatibility and the reliable precision with the 4mm collimator of the Leksell Gamma Knife make it the only device capable of consistently delivering a single high dose of radiation to a structure as small and critically located as the root entry zone of the trigeminal nerve.
