For over 50 years Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) has been building a

TGMC is a public, non-profit health care system consisting of a 321
licensed bed acute care facility complete with a range of services such as
rehabilitation and skilled nursing units, an outpatient surgery center,
emergency care services, primary care services and a community outreach center.
Terrebonne General takes pride in being the largest community-based hospital in
the tri-parish area of Terrebonne, Lafourche and St. Mary parishes. The medical
center serves as a major economic force for the community with a staff of over
1200 employees. In addition, the hospital currently has a medical staff of over
150 physicians offering a variety of specialties ranging from family practice
to cardiovascular surgery.
Terrebonne General is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the national body that ensures that member
hospitals meet established standards for quality of patient care. TGMC is also

Award Winning Hospital
TGMC is not only an excellent hospital that delivers high quality care, but the
hospital has also been recognized with several national awards. Terrebonne
General Medical Center was awarded the prestigious designation of “Employer of
Choice” by Employer of Choice, Inc. The award recognizes an organization’s
dedication to a higher level of employee continuity, workforce stability and
performance, and assures customer loyalty and employee satisfaction. This is an
exceptional honor since only 1% of hospitals in the nation operate at the level
required for this designation.
Terrebonne General was honored as the best of the best with the prestigious
Premier Award for Quality relating to Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABG).
Healthcare Data Source recognized TGMC as one of the safest places in the
Unites States to have cardiovascular bypass surgery; and of the Louisiana
hospitals with a comprehensive heart program, TGMC ranks the highest for
treating heart attacks. The American College of Radiology (ACR) awarded TGMC
with the state’s first three-year accreditation in CT-Scan. The year 2004
marked Terrebonne General’s golden anniversary and throughout the year multiple
celebrations were held to honor TGMC’s 50 years of service to the community.
Several departments at TGMC have received national recognition such as the
Radiology and Special Imaging department was awarded Imaging department of the
year by Advance Magazine; Materials Management was honored as the Materials
Management department of the year by Healthcare Purchasing News; and The Health
and Rehabilitation Center received a top CARF accreditation, ranking our
rehabilitation unit as one of the best in the nation.
