A Letter from the CEO

Phyllis PeoplesFOR OVER 6O YEARS, Terrebonne General Medical Center has provided world-class, compassionate health care to the people in our community. As we celebrate this milestone diamond anniversary, we are reminded of the dedication and faithfulness of those who have played a role in making our hospital the trusted health care provider it is today.

When TGMC opened its doors in 1954, the hospital had 76 beds and a staff of fewer than 80. Today, we have grown into a 321-bed nationally recognized award-winning facility with over 1,300 employees—the largest community hospital in the Tri-Parish area.

As the community needs continued to grow through the years, TGMC responded by significantly expanding medical services. Our cardiology services are world-renowned, with procedures and modern research performed by some of the best cardiologists in the world. Our comprehensive Women’s Center was recently internationally designated as a Baby-Friendly facility, and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC has brought specialized comprehensive cancer care to our community. The physicians and staff have birthed 92,839 little miracles, mended 136,413 broken hearts, provided over 1,409,000 emergency department visits and set over 250,154 fractured limbs. TGMC’s commitment to exceptional care continues, as evidenced by the outstanding doctor-patient relationships, with 96 percent of TGMC patients saying that the physicians communicate well.

TGMC’s Healthy Lifestyles Center also furthers our ability to care for the health and wellness of our community by providing existing services in one convenient location, including Wellness 360, Workout 360, Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation, Diabetes Management, Weight Management and the Community Sports Institute. The TGMC Community Sports Institute plays a huge role in the development of health and wellness in our community through their work with student athletes. TGMC Community Sports Institute has partnered with our local schools, ensuring that student athletes have the resources they need to properly prevent and triage injuries, starting on the field and staying with them every step of the way to the hospital. To date, we have partnered with over 2,300 students in our parish.

Three years ago, The Foundation for TGMC, the philanthropic arm of TGMC, was created by several community-minded volunteers to provide a means for our community to provide financial giving. Since that time, our committed community partners have embraced the opportunity to further the efforts of TGMC by having an opportunity to partner with us to give back to our community, and we truly appreciate their exceptional support of this program. As you can see, even after six decades, TGMC has never lost the genuine compassion that inspires our exceptional care. We have shared in the joy of your new beginnings and in the pain of sudden passings. We have shared your burden of worry as well as the elation of recovery. We are more than the sum of our technology and state-of-the-art facility; we are the healing hands and compassionate hearts of the entire region. At TGMC, we have been a part of this community for more than 60 years and vow to remain committed to the livelihood of our patients, staff and extended families as we honor our past while shaping the future.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Peoples
